The process of official recognition of educational documents obtained abroad, in accordance with the educational standards of the host country. The authorized bodies check whether the foreign diploma meets the requirements established in Kazakhstan.

The state service called "Recognition and nostrification of educational documents" is provided by the Republican State Enterprise "Center for the Bologna Process and Academic Mobility" under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Nostrification is required to obtain work permits for teachers, medical professionals and specialists in certain industries — by decision of the competent authorities.

Which documents are or are not subject to nostrification and recognition?

Diplomas

Diplomas of secondary, specialized secondary, higher and postgraduate education obtained abroad are subject to recognition.
Diploma supplement

Обязательным документом для прохождения процедуры признания также является приложение к диплому.
Automatic recognition

Diplomas received by Kazakhstani citizens in foreign universities, research centers and laboratories within the framework of the Bolashak International scholarship are recognized automatically.
Retraining

Professional retraining diplomas confirming the acquisition of qualifications in a specific field are not subject to recognition.
MSU

Education received at the Lomonosov Moscow State University branch in Kazakhstan is also recognized without undergoing the procedure.
Before 1992

Educational documents issued in the CIS countries before May 15, 1992, do not require nostrification.

Ways to apply for a public service

You can submit an application and get the result in one of the following ways::

NJSC

Through the NJSC "Government for Citizens State Corporation".

Portal

Through the e-government portal.

Terms of nostrification service provision

If the educational documents were issued in a country that is a party to the Hague Convention or has an international agreement with Kazakhstan on the abolition of legalization:
• In the divisions of the State Corporation in Astana — up to 30 working days.
• In other regions — up to 45 business days (including postal delivery).
• Through the portal — up to 30 business days.

If the document has already been legalized or apostilled in the receiving country:
• In Astana — up to 15 working days.
• In the regions — up to 30 business days (including shipping).
• Through the portal — up to 15 working days.

If the initial request for confirmation of a diploma or accreditation of an educational institution remains unanswered, a repeat request is sent. In this case, the period of consideration of the application is extended by 10 working days.
