The following persons have the right to obtain a temporary residence permit:
• Foreigners who arrived in the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of a work permit;
• Students enrolled in Kazakh educational institutions;
• Foreign citizens undergoing medical treatment in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• Foreigners married to a citizen or a citizen of Kazakhstan;
• Foreigners married to the holder of a residence permit of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• Businessmen who conduct commercial activities in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• Foreign citizens engaged in missionary activities.

The following persons have the right to obtain a temporary residence permit:
• Foreigners who arrived in the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of a work permit;
• Students enrolled in Kazakh educational institutions;
• Foreign citizens undergoing medical treatment in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• Foreigners married to a citizen or a citizen of Kazakhstan;
• Foreigners married to the holder of a residence permit of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• Businessmen who conduct commercial activities in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• Foreign citizens engaged in missionary activities.

Basic list of documents:
• Completed application for the issuance of an TRP (to be issued at the PSC);
• Passport of a foreign citizen;
• Notarized consent of the landlord for accommodation;
• Confirmation of the purpose of the stay (employment contract, certificate from an educational institution, marriage certificate, etc.);
• Medical insurance (compulsory medical insurance);
• Arrival notification;
• Certificate of fingerprinting;
• A request from the inviting party.

Additionally, other documents may be required, depending on the grounds of stay.

• For migrant workers – in accordance with the employment contract, but no more than 12 months;
• For students – for the entire period of study (with the possibility of annual renewal);
• For family members of Kazakhstan citizens – up to 1 year, with the possibility of renewal.

Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) can be obtained for close relatives of a foreign worker (spouse, children) for a period matching the main applicant's TRP term.

For the spouse, a marriage certificate will be required, and for children, a birth certificate. The documents must be notarized and either legalized or apostilled, depending on the issuing country.

Note: Children under 16 do not require a TRP. Upon completion of the state service, an electronic certificate with a QR code and the signature/stamp of the Migration Service employee is issued.

The TRP may not be issued in the following cases:
• Threat to national security by the applicant;
• Providing fake or false information;
• Violations of migration registration rules.

It is important to strictly adhere to the validity period of the temporary residence permit. Failure to exit the country after the temporary residence permit expires entails administrative penalties—fines for both the foreign citizen and the host party (including the employer), in accordance with Articles 517 and 518 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

• For citizens of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan — no later than 90 days from the date of entry into Kazakhstan. The 90/180 rule (stay of no more than 90 days during a 180-day period) must be taken into account.;
• For citizens of Uzbekistan, the TRP is issued within 30 calendar days from the date of entry, also taking into account 90/180.

Foreign citizens who have issued a temporary residence permit are required to:
• Comply with the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
• Live at a registered address. In case of a change of address, the receiving party must notify the migration authorities in a timely manner.;
• Extend the TRP in advance if necessary;
• Inform the migration service about a change in the purpose of the visit or the address of residence (this responsibility is assumed by the receiving party);
• Get an IIN (individual identification number).
